Flat spring elements fixed at one end, specified by active length, support details and force at the moving contact.
A cantilever flat spring bends from a fixed region while its free region provides a return, contact or retaining force. The mounting boundary and load point are essential parts of the design. Show which length is actually free to bend, rather than providing overall strip length alone. Thickness, width, material condition and formed details must then be reviewed against the required force and movement.
This page focuses on the fixed-end bending arrangement. The broader cantilever-and-formed-flat page also covers formed details; the contact-leaf page adds electrical-interface requirements. Choose the page according to the main function.
Use the specified support and load point in force testing. Identify edge condition, bend and mounting tolerances, and any required permanent-set or repeated-deflection acceptance criterion.
Product Specification
Use these product-specific inputs to describe your requirement. Final dimensions, material and performance are confirmed against the drawing and operating conditions.
| Specification item | What to define |
|---|---|
| Active geometry | Strip thickness, width and free bending length. |
| Fixed boundary | Clamp, fastener or capture arrangement and support dimensions. |
| Load contact | Contact location, shape and movement direction. |
| Force-deflection points | Required force at installed and maximum displacement. |
| Duty and material | Material condition, repeated movement and exposure requirements. |
Next Design Decisions
Once the spring style is selected, confirm how it works in the assembly, which material suits the environment, how it will be manufactured and which dimensions and performance points should be controlled on the drawing.

Product Questions
Not necessarily. The clamped or captured region does not bend in the same way as the free region. Define the active length from its support boundary.
A useful force test needs the agreed fixed support and load point. Include those dimensions or provide a representative fixture drawing.
RFQ
A drawing is ideal. If you do not have one yet, provide the dimensions, load or torque, travel, environment and expected quantity that matter in the assembly.
