About Custom Drawbar Extension Springs

A drawbar assembly uses rods or loops passing through a compression spring. Pulling the external ends compresses the coil through the drawbar arrangement. This differs from a conventional extension spring whose body stretches. The complete assembly drawing must show the rods, end engagement, coil and travel limit. Any retention or overload requirement needs its own specification and validation.

Key Design Characteristics

  • Show the full drawbar load path through the compression coil.
  • Dimension end engagement and the installed attachment distance.
  • Identify the usable stroke and intended travel stop.

Choosing Between Related Designs

Although this assembly is pulled at its ends, the internal coil works in compression. Compare it with hooked extension springs using the full installed envelope and attachment travel, not a coil-body length alone.

Specification and Inspection Review

Inspect the rods, coil seating and attachment features together. Agree functional pull tests and any overload or retention test required by the application; do not infer a safety rating from the product name.

Next Steps for Your Spring Design

Once the spring style is selected, confirm how it works in the assembly, which material suits the environment, how it will be manufactured and which dimensions and performance points should be controlled on the drawing.

Product Questions

Drawbar Extension Springs FAQ

Is the internal coil stretched when the assembly is pulled?

In a conventional drawbar arrangement, the external pull compresses the internal coil through the rods or loops.

Does the drawbar name guarantee safe load retention?

No. Specify the required load, failure and retention conditions and validate the complete assembly for the intended use.

RFQ
