About Custom Battery Flat Contact / Grounding Springs

Battery contacts and grounding springs can both use formed strip elements, but they serve different electrical interfaces. A battery contact connects to a cell terminal; a grounding contact connects the specified chassis or conductive surfaces. Identify the intended function before choosing geometry or finish. Mechanical contact force and electrical acceptance requirements must be stated separately, with the mating surfaces included in the drawing.

Key Design Characteristics

  • Identify battery-terminal contact or chassis-grounding duty.
  • Show the contact area, mounting points and usable deflection.
  • State current or grounding requirements and the intended verification method.

Choosing Between Related Designs

Use a battery coil contact when the assembly needs a helical interface. A contact leaf spring is a more general strip-contact form. Battery connection and grounding duty should not share an unspecified electrical rating.

Specification and Inspection Review

Define how contact force and electrical performance are checked on the mating parts. Identify any soldering, fastening, cleanliness or corrosion requirement without assuming that a particular plating is suitable for every interface.

Next Design Decisions

Next Steps for Your Spring Design

Once the spring style is selected, confirm how it works in the assembly, which material suits the environment, how it will be manufactured and which dimensions and performance points should be controlled on the drawing.

Product Questions

Battery Flat Contact / Grounding Springs FAQ

Can a grounding contact use the same specification as a battery contact?

Only if the actual interfaces and acceptance requirements match. State the electrical function and mating surfaces explicitly.

Is material name alone enough to choose a contact?

No. Surface finish, contact geometry, installed force and the electrical requirements also need review.

RFQ
