About Custom EMI Shielding Springs

EMI shielding springs work at the boundary between mechanical fit and electrical performance. They need enough compliance to follow tolerance, vibration and repeated opening while maintaining a low-resistance contact path. Contact spacing, surface finish and the mating metal are as important as the free spring shape.

Key Design Characteristics

  • Contact force must be high enough for reliable electrical contact without damaging the enclosure or making assembly difficult.
  • Pitch or contact spacing affects how continuously the seam is electrically bridged.
  • Plating and base material should be compatible with the mating surface and environment to limit corrosion.
  • Repeated compression should stay within an elastic range so contact force does not fade after service cycles.

What to Specify for a Custom Quote

  • Available seam or groove geometry
  • Required compression range and contact force
  • Contact spacing or pitch
  • Electrical performance target and mating-surface material
  • Base material, plating, environment, cycles and quantity

Manufacturing Review

Mechanical height and electrical surface quality should be controlled together. For plated parts, masking, plating thickness and post-plate handling can affect both dimensions and contact reliability.

Common Assembly Roles

  • Enclosure seam grounding
  • EMI gasket contact
  • Repeated electrical contact between removable covers and chassis

Made to Order

How This Product Is Quoted

This category is reviewed from the drawing and working requirement rather than from a fixed public stock list.

Design reference

Made to the customer's EMI gasket channel drawing; no generic public catalog

Typical material direction

Beryllium copper, conductive stainless, silver- or tin-plated alloys

Why there is no fixed table

Shielding effectiveness and compression force depend on the enclosure channel design supplied by the customer.

Product Questions

EMI Shielding Springs FAQ

Is spring force alone enough to guarantee EMI performance?

No. Shielding also depends on contact spacing, surface condition, enclosure design and electrical continuity across the whole seam.

Why does plating matter on an EMI spring?

Plating can improve conductivity and corrosion behavior at the contact surface, but it must be compatible with the base material and mating metal.
