Where this spring style fits
Review best-fit uses, assembly constraints and situations where another spring style may be a better choice.
View application guidance →Extension Springs
Extension springs with side-positioned hooks, specified by the attachment geometry, hook orientation and pull at installed lengths.
Side-hook extension springs place the attachment feature to the side of the coil body rather than describing only a centered end. The hook needs its own dimensions and orientation reference because it determines how the spring fits the mating pin or tab. Define pulling force at installed lengths and include the attachment points in the drawing so the load path can be reviewed.
A side hook is a fixed formed attachment. A swivel connection is a separate option when the end needs rotational movement. Select by the mating interface and movement rather than treating all hook types as interchangeable.
Define load-test length between agreed attachment references. Include hook opening, deformation and retention criteria in acceptance because a suitable coil body does not establish a suitable attachment.
Product Specification
Use these product-specific inputs to describe your requirement. Final dimensions, material and performance are confirmed against the drawing and operating conditions.
| Specification item | What to define |
|---|---|
| Coil body | Wire size, body diameter and body length. |
| Side-hook details | Opening, bend radius, offset and mating-pin dimensions. |
| End orientation | Angle between hooks and a clear viewing direction. |
| Pull requirements | Load at working lengths and initial tension if required. |
| Travel and duty | Maximum extension, movement frequency and environment. |
Next Design Decisions
Once the spring style is selected, confirm how it works in the assembly, which material suits the environment, how it will be manufactured and which dimensions and performance points should be controlled on the drawing.

Product Questions
Define the distance between the specified attachment references or pin centres. State whether an overall dimension includes the hooks.
No if orientation affects installation. Give the angle between hooks with a defined viewing direction and the relevant mating geometry.
RFQ
A drawing is ideal. If you do not have one yet, provide the dimensions, load or torque, travel, environment and expected quantity that matter in the assembly.
