About Custom Swivel / Pivoting-Hook Extension Springs

Swivel or pivoting-hook extension springs use an end connection that permits specified movement relative to the coil body. The movable fitting and its retention are part of the spring assembly. State the required rotation, mating interface and working lengths rather than assuming a conventional formed hook will provide the same freedom of movement. The coil and connection must be assessed together.

Key Design Characteristics

  • Show the movable end fitting and how it is retained.
  • Define permitted rotation and any stop or movement restriction.
  • Identify connection clearance under both installation and working loads.

Choosing Between Related Designs

A fixed side hook changes attachment position; it does not provide a defined swivel joint. Choose a movable end only when the assembly needs that movement and can accommodate the fitting and its retention features.

Specification and Inspection Review

Specify whether acceptance includes pivot movement, fitting retention and connection wear. Define the load-test attachment and length references to make the coil and assembly measurements consistent.

What to Define for This Spring

Use these product-specific inputs to describe your requirement. Final dimensions, material and performance are confirmed against the drawing and operating conditions.

Specification itemWhat to define
End fittingHook or eye geometry, pivot detail and mating-pin size.
MovementRequired rotational range, alignment and stops.
Coil bodyWire size, body diameter, free length and initial tension.
Working pullLoads at installed lengths and maximum extension.
Retention and dutyConnection retention requirement, cycling and environment.

Next Steps for Your Spring Design

Once the spring style is selected, confirm how it works in the assembly, which material suits the environment, how it will be manufactured and which dimensions and performance points should be controlled on the drawing.

Product Questions

Swivel / Pivoting-Hook Extension Springs FAQ

Does swivel mean unrestricted rotation?

No. Define the movement that the connection must permit and any limits imposed by the fitting, retention feature or mating part.

Can a standard hook be substituted?

Only after checking the movement and attachment requirements. A fixed hook does not provide the same defined joint motion.

RFQ
