Where this spring style fits
Review best-fit uses, assembly constraints and situations where another spring style may be a better choice.
View application guidance →Extension Springs
Extension springs without conventional exposed hooks, specified around the actual end attachment and required tensile load.
Hookless extension springs omit the usual projecting hook or loop. Their function therefore depends on a different attachment arrangement, such as a specified insert, fitting or assembly capture feature. The term hookless does not identify one universal end design. Provide a section or assembly view showing how pulling force enters each end, together with the installed lengths and loads.
A spring supplied without hooks still needs a defined tensile connection. If the attachment is specifically threaded, the reduced/threaded-end page offers a focused checklist. A plain compression coil is not a substitute merely because it has no hooks.
Identify responsibility for supplying and assembling any end fittings. Put connection retention and load-test conditions on the specification rather than accepting the coil body alone.
Product Specification
Use these product-specific inputs to describe your requirement. Final dimensions, material and performance are confirmed against the drawing and operating conditions.
| Specification item | What to define |
|---|---|
| Attachment section | End geometry, insert or capture detail and engagement. |
| Body geometry | Wire diameter, body diameter and free body length. |
| Load reference | Functional attachment-to-attachment test length. |
| Tensile performance | Initial tension if required and loads at working lengths. |
| Assembly limits | Maximum extension, retention requirement and operating duty. |
Next Design Decisions
Once the spring style is selected, confirm how it works in the assembly, which material suits the environment, how it will be manufactured and which dimensions and performance points should be controlled on the drawing.

Product Questions
The attachment must be shown by the project design. Specify any fitting, insert or capture feature and how it transfers the pulling force.
Not necessarily. State the distance between functional attachment references at each required load.
RFQ
A drawing is ideal. If you do not have one yet, provide the dimensions, load or torque, travel, environment and expected quantity that matter in the assembly.
