About Custom DIN 2093 Belleville Disc Springs

Belleville disc springs behave very differently from helical compression springs. A single disc can deliver high force over short movement, while discs can be stacked in series, parallel or combined arrangements to tailor deflection and force. The stack, guidance and working deflection should be designed as one system.

Key Design Characteristics

  • Series stacking increases available travel; parallel stacking increases force.
  • The OD, ID and thickness determine how the disc fits around guides and within housings.
  • Working deflection should be chosen with fatigue and load consistency in mind rather than simply flattening the disc every cycle.
  • Friction between parallel discs can influence the real load-deflection behavior of a stack.

What to Specify for a Custom Quote

  • Outside diameter, inside diameter and disc thickness
  • Available axial height and required working deflection
  • Required load at the operating position
  • Single disc or planned series/parallel stack arrangement
  • Guide method, cycles, temperature, material and surface condition

Manufacturing Review

DIN reference dimensions are useful for screening, but the final stack should be checked for force, travel, guidance and fatigue. For grouped stacks, orientation and lubrication or surface condition can affect repeatability.

Common Assembly Roles

  • Bolt preload and compensation
  • Bearing and valve preload
  • High-force compact spring stacks

Next Design Decisions

Next Steps for Your Spring Design

Once the spring style is selected, confirm how it works in the assembly, which material suits the environment, how it will be manufactured and which dimensions and performance points should be controlled on the drawing.

Applications

Where this spring style fits

Review best-fit uses, assembly constraints and situations where another spring style may be a better choice.

Materials

Choose the material for the environment

51CrV4 and similar spring steels are common for standard disc springs; stainless materials may be considered where corrosion resistance is more important, with load and fatigue rechecked for the chosen grade.

Product Questions

DIN 2093 Belleville Disc Springs FAQ

What is the difference between series and parallel disc-spring stacks?

Series stacks add deflection while keeping force roughly at the single-disc level; parallel stacks add force while keeping deflection close to that of one disc, aside from friction effects.

Should a Belleville disc be flattened completely in normal service?

Not necessarily. Repeated operation near flat can raise stress and shorten life. The working deflection should be selected for the required load and fatigue target.
